Mapping

GIS Mapping is the process of taking spatial data and using mapping software to visualize the data in the form of a map to better explain the meaning of the data. These maps help visualize data with a number of different methods. Some methods involve adding layers of spatial data, one above another, such as a road layer over a state layer. Other maps take data, such as county level census data, and categorize it quantitatively or qualitatively, and then use colors to illustrate the different categories. Symbolization of points of data is another common method to help visualize categorized data. The data can be represented with different symbols, colors and varying size of symbols to convey meaning. The best combination of the various methods is used to create maps to meet the needs of a client.
